PRE-RACE AND RACE DAY REGISTRATION: You can collect your  race numbers the evening before Friday 9th from 7:00 – 8:00pm at the track behind the  Blessington Community College.   There will be a registration desk at Blessington Educate Together National School on the morning of the race should you have a friend who decides to do the run also where you should aim to collect your number no later than 10:45am.

TIMING CHIP: The timing chip is attached to the race number

EVENT STAGING AREA:

PLEASE NOTE: Last year we had a new start location, this year is the same for the Lakes 10k & 5k. The new main area for the event is Educate Together National School located at the end of the Red Lane. There are toilets here. There will also be a bag storage facility, but you should ensure the contents are protected for the weather as this may be exposed to the elements.

PARKING AND DIRECTIONS: There are parking facilities as indicated on the attached map marked ‘P’. The car park is located 600 metres from the start line on the Red Lane.  (You should be at the registration area no later than 10:45am). We are asking all vehicles coming from Dublin to turn left before reaching Blessington Village onto Red Lane and likewise all traffic coming from the southern side of Blessington direction to turn right onto the Red Lane. From here there will be marshals in place to assist you with direction. This route is indicated by arrows on the attached map.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: the 65 bus will depart Poolbeg St. (taking in numerous stops) at 8:00am on race morning arriving in Blessington at approx. 9:00am. Get off at the top of Redlane. A later bus leaving Poolbeg St at 9:30am will get you down for 10:30am but this might be tight, if delays are had.

START TIME: The 10k race will start at 11:00am sharp. Roads will close from 10:45am to 12:30pm. Please note that the vehicular access route we recommend you take is also part of the race route that closes to traffic at 10:45am. Late arrivals to the event will not be able to get vehicular access along this route once it closes at 10:45am. It is important to get to the parking and start area before the roads close.

The 5K race will start 5mins after the start of the 10K race.

RACE START: The actual start line is on the Red Lane. All entrants should utilize the registration area for their warmups and stretching before the race and must wait here until told to make their way to the start line by a Race Director.

For the actual start of the race we ask competitors to have consideration for fellow runners and position themselves according to their estimated finishing times. We have a few Pacers so look out for them and position yourself behind the pacer you feel most comfortable with or if you’re very fast head to the front of the group.

5K runners will be held back from the 10K group of runners till their start time.

We would ask walkers and slower runners to position themselves nearer the back. This makes for a safer and more enjoyable start for all.

RACE ROUTE AND SAFETY: The roads are officially closed to traffic and there will be marshals at the junctions. There should be no traffic along the route, but circumstances may arise where a vehicle appears, and runners should bear this in mind. An ambulance will follow behind the last runners should anybody need assistance. There is one water station close to the halfway point on the 10k route. There will be no water stop for the 5k course, refreshments will be at the finish. Distances are marked in KM. We will also have tail walkers/runners.

RACE FINISH: Once runners finish the race you will be filtered back to the registration area at the Educate Together National School. Refreshments and treats will be available at the registration area. The presentation of prizes will take place also at the registration area after the race. We will try to get this done as quickly as possible.

We will also have a physio from Method Physio available to give rub downs after the race, if needed.

Well that’s it and we hope you have all the information you need here. If however, you need to ask something please email us (lakeshorestriders@gmail.com) and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

We look forward to meeting you on the day and really hope you enjoy the event. Hopefully the weather will be good and most importantly; don’t forget to smile for the cameras!

Kind regards

The Lakes Race Committee
