Clane AC, in conjunction with Pop Up Races, are delighted to bring you the first ever Streets of Clane 5k Road Race, taking place on Tuesday night, February 15th, around the Streets of Clane, Co. Kildare.

This event is AAI approved and will be the first of its kind in county Kildare. The route is fast and ideal for those looking for an early 5k pb in 2022.

The night will consist of 2 x 5k races, an open race (7:30pm start) and an elite race (8:15pm start).

 

PRIZE MONEY:

Elite Race – €1000 prize pot. €250/150/100 1st 2nd 3rd Male & Female

Open Race – €600 prize pot. €150/€100/€50 1st 2nd 3rd Male & Female

 

There will be premium tech t-shirts for the first 450 registered

  • Open Race: Open to all but in order to adhere to traffic restrictions, there will be a 40 minute cut off.
  • Elite Race: Open to male athletes who have run sub 17 minutes over the last 18 months, and female athletes who have run sub 20 minutes in the last 18 months.

**Note, there will be free entries available to elite athletes. These are available to males who have run sub 15 minutes and females who have run sub 17 minutes over the previous 12 months.

To avail of this, please email office@popupraces.ie with a link to your qualifying time. If you do not have a 5k time, but have a fast time from a different distance, please email that to us and we will review it.

Numbers & T-shirts

 

For athletes that selected postage of their race number and/or tshirt, these went in Tuesdays post. If it does not arrive by the night of the race, there will be a spare number available at the registration area for you.

 

Please note that we will NOT have race entry available on the day. Our thanks to Westgrove Hotel (O Connell Suite)  for use of their facilities for Race HQ on Tuesday 15/02/2022

Race HQ

Race HQ will be in Westgrove Hotel and open from 6:15pm. This is located only 100  metres from the start line. There will be toilets available in this area, and there is space to warm up here also. Race HQ and the start area will be clearly signposted and marshals will be available to help direct you.

 

Parking

Race car parking is  available from 6pm on the Prosperous Road :

  • Clane GAA Conneff Park, W91 D889
  • Scoil Bhride, Prosperous Rd,
  • Scoil Phadraig W91 FC97

Please car pool where possible as we are expecting a large crowd and parking in the town will be limited.

 

 

Note that parking  is approx. 1km from the race start so please allow enough time to get parked and to make your way to the race. There is limited parking at the Westgrove but this will fill up quickly. Marshals will be around to direct you to the race start, and there will also be toilets located at the Westgrove car park.

Once the car parks are full, please use suitable parking or any of the public car parks in the town. All on-street village parking is not permitted.

Please follow the instructions of our marshals with regard to parking - they are there to ensure that the traffic flows smoothly and that delays are avoided. Remember that they are volunteers who are aiming to help both race entrants and local residents. Please DO NOT park in residential estates or in shopping car parks such as Lidl. Tesco or Aldi. It is your responsibility to ensure you park legally and safely.

 

Bag Drop

A bag drop will be available at Race HQ. Please note that Clane AC will not accept any responsibility for items that go missing. Belongings are left entirely at the risk of the owner - do not leave any valuable items in the bag drop. Participants are not be permitted to congregate inside the bag drop area.

 

 

The Race

The Open race starts at 7:30pm sharp. The race is chip timed and will have a chipped start mat also - so please do not crowd the start, you will get an accurate recorded time for your race regardless of how far back from the start line you are when the gun goes. Your chip time begins when you cross the start mat.

There will be no pacers. We will have a corralled start area to try and keep runners of similar ability together - so please group according to your expected finish time, even if you are not intending to run with them..

There will be water available at the Finish Line with small bottles. Water and bananas will be available at the finish line, and there will be a tea/coffee, refreshments available in the Westgrove HQ.

 

We will have race marshals at various points along the route - please listen to any instructions they might give you. They are there to help ensure the safety of all participants. We would strongly discourage the wearing of headphones as, while we will endeavour to limit/divert traffic as best we can, we cannot guarantee a completely traffic free route, so there may be traffic from time to time. Please be cautious especially around bends in the road.

Post-Race

Please remember to collect any belongings you may have left in the bag drop and dispose of any rubbish you might have (or bring it home). We cannot hold items which people do not collect from the race HQ after the race - they will be disposed of.

Toilets

Toilets will be available:

Please use the facilities provided and DO NOT use surrounding buildings as a toilet - respect our neighbours and our neighbourhood businesses.

 

Bins

There will be bins close to Race HQ/finish area - please be considerate and use the bins for all litter or take your litter home with you.
