St Raphaels Parents and Friends Association was established in 1962 and since then has worked tirelessly to advocate for and support the individuals attending St. John of God Liffey Services, previously know as St. Raphaels in Celbridge. The services provide school, day service and residential services for approximately 500 individuals with intellectual disabilities, many of whom also have physical disabilities. One of the functions of the Association is to fundraise to support these individuals but fundraising efforts have been hampered by an ageing group of volunteers, with our Annual Garden Fete unable to proceed since Covid. The Association is managed entirely by volunteers with no individual profiting from management, nor volunteering with the Association. The Association relies on the generosity of the community and businesses in its fundraising efforts and is grateful that the support of both continues.
With that, we are hoping that this run, the first of its kind by us, will be a great community event that can be held for many years to come. It is a scenic route along the grand canal, starting at Cliff at Lyons, who have been kind enough to host the race for us.
