Back To Race List

The Ray Flynn Mile, hosted by Longford Athletics Club, returns in 2022 to honour its greatest athlete 40 years on from his setting of the Irish record for the mile.

A flat route in and around St Mel’s College, where Ray’s running career began, provides a great opportunity to clock a fast time for the distance. Ray will be there on the evening so here’s your chance to run a mile with Ray!

There will be prizes for the first 3 male and female and the first under-14 boy and girl across the finish line.

Race starts at 7pm. Number collection from 5.45pm at the Longford athletics centre, St. Mel’s College (N39 XP92). Parking available at the College. Register on the evening for €7 if places still available.

ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSES NOON ON SEPTEMBER 21, BUT THERE WILL BE REGISTARTIONS TAKEN ON THE NIGHT

On 7 July 1982, Ray Flynn ran in the Dream Mile at the Bislett Games in a time of 3:49.77 which remains the fastest ever mile by an Irishman. His 1500m split in Oslo that evening of 3:33.5 also still sits at the top of the all-time national rankings.
