The 2025 Galway AAI Primary Schools Cross Country Championship Semi-Finals will be held in the Galway racecourse
(entrance beside Luminate medical H91 FW1H) in Galway City on Tuesday, 30th September 2025 from
10.30AM sharp. All races will be completed by 2:00PM. The event is organised by Galway Athletics Ireland County
Board to give schools and pupils an opportunity to take part in a fun but competitive cross-country event. The
championships are open to 3 rd class up to 6 th class pupils of both sexes.
The finals will take place on the following Tuesday, 7th October 2025 in Renmore(H91 V4KW) and
commencing at 11PM. Further details will be published with the semi-final results.
The Connacht finals will take place on Saturday the 18 th Oct in Loughrea.
The timeline is tight especially with the beginning of the academic school year; therefore, it might be a good
opportunity to pencil in a date for early September trials etc. now.
Note that because of the anticipated numbers taking part we will use a THREE division format, split largely by
geographical area with the aim of even fields across all races:
You are not permitted to switch divisions. If a school switches division, you will not be
included in the overall results
Maroon (starting at 10.30AM)
Green (starting at 11.30AM)
White (starting at 12:30PM).
Each division will have the usual four qualifying races in the following order, 15 minutes apart:
1. Girls 1000m (3rd/4th Class)
2. Boys 1000m (3rd/4th Class)
3. Girls 1200m (5th/6th Class)
4. Boys 1200m (5th/6th Class).
The divisional split is outlined on the next page. If any school is unsure as to which division they are in, please
contact me. If any new school is taking part and you are not listed, please contact me and I will allocate you to a
division before race day.

Athletes’ names will be printed on their numbers. This was in general very well received
last year. Schools should make parents aware of this before entering as there will obviously
be photographs taken of the kids on the day
If you are not happy with this, please enter the pupils as an alias eg initials or a code the
school is happy with it. You will need this on the day to know who gets what number. Eg

Please use the entrance listed above. The Parkmore entrance is not an option for schools as
there is heavy farm machinery operating around the racecourse.
Medals on day 1 for the top 15 athletes in each race. No team prizes.
Top 30 individuals and top 5 teams qualify for day 2
Medals on day 2 for the top 15 athletes in each race and the top 3 teams (6 medals per
team).
Top 15 individuals qualify for Connacht finals and top 3 teams
Spikes may be worn, 5mm or 9mm
Schools can enter one team per event, but they can also enter as many individual
runners as they wish and/or additional individuals if you cannot fill a team. The first 6 from each school will
count. Teams consist of 6 athletes with the first four finishing to count for team purposes. A team needs a
minimum of 4 to qualify.
Entry fee: €20 total for the first 6 athletes and €5 per individual after that.
Closing date for entries: Friday 19th September at 12 noon (please note
booking fees may also apply)
Any entries later than this date will be €40 total for the first 6 athletes and €10
per individual after that. Late entries close Thurs 25 th Sept.
