Dundrum South Dublins Paul O Donnell has had a memorable year to date having run a 2:10 marathon to go to 5th on the Irish All time list earlier this year. While the Edenderry 10 mile may not have the same prestige, O Donnell does have fond memories of the event having won here before, and so he returned in one of his first races back post marathon to take a comfortable win in Co Offaly. Although, with temperatures in the high 20’s, “comfortable” may not be the best word to describe the day!
O Donnells time of 52.39 is by no means his fastest run, but he will have been quietly satisfied to get back to the roads and back to winning ways, picking up the €500 win bonus courtesy of Peugeot Ireland for his exploits. His clubmate Eanna O Bradaigh was second, 35s back, with Jordan Clay 3rd home.
Edel Gaffney of Trim AC was the class of the womens field, dominating from the off to take the win in a time of 1:04:12. She was over 2 minutes clear of Grace O Reilly in second and Kate Kennedy of Templemore AC was 3rd. Gaffney controlled the race from the gun and was again very “comfortable” throughout!
For the second time in the series, it was Tullamore AC who took the €1,000 team prize courtesy of Peugeot Ireland.
The series concludes with 3 races in Cork in the months ahead.
