Back To Race List

ON THE DAY REGISTRATION FROM 9:30am for late entries

The Lakes 10K, – our 12th year hosted by Lakeshore Striders AC, invite you to take part in our annual 10K road race set in the beautiful surroundings of Blessington lakes.

The live race takes place on the 11th of September, 2021.

For those who have taken part before the course has changed this year. So why not come and set a record time for others to beat in years to come. Despite cancelling last year we are delighted to announce our live event with restrictions at the moment.

It is important to us to ensure our attendees remain safe so therefore if the government reinstate restrictions we will be making the event totally virtual.

We hope we will be able to add to this number once we know the Covid guidelines in September.

Prize money for M & F 1, 2, 3

Dear Entrant

Thank you for entering The Lakes 10k 2021. We hope this race is a memorable one for you for all the right reasons. If you are a regular entrant to the Lakes 10k please continue to read on for some important information regarding changes to start/end point of the Lakes 10k route.

COVID19 SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: We ask participants to social distance prior to and after the race and follow our one way system when entering and leaving the event. Distance yourself wherever possible and respect other people's space. Please minimise amount of time spent in close proximity to others.

Wearing a mask or buff is required up to the start line. Hand sanitisers will be located at entrance and exit and around the registering and bag drop areas. We ask you to please follow coughing, spitting and handshaking etiquette while attending and running the race. No high fiving.

In the event of having more than 200 runners, it may be necessary to have a second wave of runners, at a 10 min interval from the initial 1st wave.

Most importantly if you feel unwell, have been a close contact or if you are recovering from Covid19 please do not attend the Race.

PRE-RACE AND RACE DAY REGISTRATION: To facilitate social distancing and ease numbers on Saturday we will have a registration desk at the Community College on Friday evening from 6.30 to 7.30pm.

There will also be a registration desk at Blessington Educate Together National School on the morning of the race where you should aim to collect your number no later than 10:30am, please remember social distancing in the queues.

TIMING CHIP: The disposable timing chip is attached to the race number

EVENT STAGING AREA:

PLEASE NOTE: This year we have a new start location for the Lakes 10k. The new main area for the event is Educate Together National School located at the end of the Red Lane. There are toilets here. There will also be a bag storage facility, but you should ensure the contents are protected for the weather as this may be exposed to the elements.

PARKING AND DIRECTIONS: There are parking facilities as indicated on the attached map marked ‘P’. The car park is located on left side, 150 metres from the top of Red Lane.  (You should be at the registration area no later than 10:45am provided you have your race number already). We are asking all vehicles from Dublin to turn left before reaching Blessington Village onto Red Lane and likewise all traffic coming from the southern side of Blessington direction to turn right onto the Red Lane. From here there will be marshals in place to assist you with parking.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: the 65 bus will depart Poolbeg St. (taking in numerous stops) at 8:00am on race morning arriving in Blessington at approx. 9:10am. Get off at the top of Red Lane.

START TIME: The 10k race will start at 11:00am sharp. Roads will close from 10:45am to 12:30pm. Please note that the vehicular access route we recommend you take is also part of the race route that closes to traffic at 10:45am. Late arrivals to the event will not be able to get vehicular access along this route once it closes at 10:45am. It is important to get to the parking and start area before the roads close.

RACE START: The actual start line is on the Red Lane. All entrants should utilize the registration area for their warmups and stretching but be aware of social distancing before the race and must wait here until told to make their way to the start line by a Race Director.

For the actual start of the race we ask competitors to have consideration for fellow runners and position themselves according to their estimated finishing times. We have 4 race Pacers so look out for them and position yourself behind the pacer you feel most comfortable with or if you’re very fast head to the front of the group. We would ask walkers and slower runners to position themselves at the back. Your chip timing will only activate after you run past the start gentry arch, so starting back a bit further will not affect your race time.  This makes for a safer and more enjoyable start for all.

RACE ROUTE AND SAFETY: The roads are officially closed to traffic and there will be marshals at the junctions. There should be no traffic along the route, but circumstances may arise where a vehicle appears, and runners should bear this in mind. A first aid vehicle will follow behind the last runners should anybody need assistance. There is one water station close to the halfway point on the 10k route. Distances are marked in KM.

RACE FINISH: Once runners finish the race you will be filtered back to the registration area at the Educate Together National School. Refreshments will be available at the registration area. We will try to get this done as quickly and safely as possible.

Well that’s it and we hope you have all the information you need here. If, however, you need to ask something please email us (lakeshorestriders@gmail.com) and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

We look forward to meeting you on the day and really hope you enjoy the event. Hopefully the weather will be good and most importantly; don’t forget to smile for the cameras!

Kind regards
