The heavens opened around 6pm, and it appeared that the rain wasn’t going to stop – but it did eventually, and the thunder storm cleared the air leaving conditions almost perfect for running at the 2025 Bob Heffernan & Mary Hanley 5k Road Race, promoted by Na Fianna AC.
Known as one of Ireland’s fastest 5km races, the 2025 version saw runners from all over Ireland come to Johnstown bridge in the hope of capturing a coveted Personal Best time over the 5km distance!!
The race started at 8:05pm and while the first couple of KM’s led to some shadow boxing amongst the big hitters, it didn’t take much longer for St Cocas athlete Kevin Kelly to make a decisive break, a break that he held for the duration of the race to win in a time of 14:26 from Fintan Kerins (Clonliffe) in second and Athony O Brien (Raheny) in third.
With €2,000 in win bonuses on offer courtesy of Peugeot Ireland, its a race that’s well worth winning! And in the womens race it was Irish International Mary Mulhare that emerged from the pack to win in 16:18, 4 seconds clear of Faye Dervan of Dublin City Harriers with Jess Craig from North Down AC in 3rd.
The mixed team was won by Clonliffe Harriers.
