The penultimate round of the Kia Race Series brought runners from around the country to Edenderry, Co. Offaly, and the blistering heat that emerged as the day progressed was matched by the blistering times, as both the male and female course records were taken down yet again.

Leevale AC and Dundrum South Dublin AC have been the teams to catch in this years team event, and yet again, both clubs had some of their best runners on show as they try to secure the top prize of €7,000. The runner up club will get €5,000 which isnt too shabby either!!
DSD’s Paul O Donnell and Clonmel AC’s William Maunsell set the early pace, and after 10 miles of undulating hills in the summer sun, it was the DSD man who emerged onto the track for a victory lap as he rounded the bend and came through the finish line in a fabulous time of 49:49, a new course record by almost 5 minutes! DSD led the club to the win in the team event, edging DSD slightly closer to Leevale at the top with 1 round (in Cork!) to go. Maunsell was second with DSD’s Emmett Jennings completing the podium.
Leevales Michelle Finn (also of Dublin track club) had a reasonably comfortable run to take the win and set a new course record in the process. Her 57:42 had her over a minute clear of Letterkenny ACs Noeleen Scanlon in second, with Finns team mate Lizzie Lee coming home in 3rd place.

The final round of the Kia Race Series takes place in August at the Cork City 10 Mile, and with the male, female and team prizes all up for grabs, it promises to be an evening of racing that will live long in the memory! You can be part of it by registering
