The Kia Race series went west on July 2nd for the annual Roscommon 10 Miler, hosted by Roscommon Harriers AC. Always a popular event with runners, almost 800 participants signed up for this years event, and yet again, course records tumbled.

Letterkenny AC’s Anne Marie McGlynn took the female race in a new course record time of 0:55:21, coming in almost a minute ahead of Michelle Finn, with Michelles Leevale teammate Lizzie Lee completing the podium.

In the mens race, it was a 3 way battle from early on, when it became quickly apparent that  the race winner would come from the breakaway group of William Maunsell (Clonmel AC), Andrew Annett (Mourne Runners) ad Gideon Kimosop (1SERO01). In a sprint finish, it was the Clonmel AC man Maunsell that took the win (0:50:34) with Annett in second and Kimosop in third.

The win moves Maunsell into contention in the overall Kia Race Series, and likewise in the female standings, both McGlynn and Finn have boosted their chances of catching leader Lizzie Lee, with just two rounds remaining.

In the team event, it was Leevale from Dundrum from Mullingar Harriers, with all 3 tightening their grip on the the top 3 spots.

Next weeks penultimate round takes place at the Edenderry 10 Miler, and its all to play for!
